Midnight Blue

Intense airglow flows along the horizon in this Milky Way panorama I shot in Wyoming's Big Horn Mountains. Almost like the aurora, I loved watching the green haze pulse and stream over this gorgeous field of blue lupines.  This was captured by attaching headlamps, their lenses covered in wax paper, to trekking poles driven into the ground behind my camera. That diffused light added just enough to capture all the detail of a field overflowing with flowers. The most remarkable part of this shoot for me was the scent -- clean and fragrant.  This photo was awarded one of the top ten landscapes in the 2023 National Wildlife Federation Photo Contest, and also won a prize in the Wyoming Wildlife Photo Contest in 2024.  Each size is limited to ten copies, comes signed and numbered, and ships free to all lower 48 states.
