This set is ideal for U.S. Navy and U.S. Army Air Forces aircraft that served in the Pacific, including the F4F Wildcat, SBD Dauntless, TBF Avenger, F6F Hellcat, F4U Corsair, and PBY Catalina. Q: What was the early two-tone camouflage scheme? From 1941–43, U.S. Navy aircraft carried Non-Specular Sea Blue on upper surfaces and Non-Specular Light Gray on undersides. This two-tone scheme was standard at Pearl Harbor, Coral Sea, and Midway. Q: What was the tri-color camouflage scheme? Beginning in 1943, the Navy introduced a tri-color scheme: Non-Specular Sea Blue (upper fuselage and wings), Intermediate Blue (mid-fuselage sides), Insignia White (undersides). This became the hallmark of Corsairs, Hellcats, and Avengers from 1943–44. Q: Why are Zinc Chromate and Interior Green both included? Zinc Chromate was the original yellow-green primer. Interior Green was created by mixing Zinc Chromate with black pigment and became the standard cockpit finish by mid-war. Both are essential for historically accurate interiors. Q: How does this set differ from the Europe set (#29478)? The Pacific set (#29477) focuses on naval camouflage schemes (two-tone and tri-color) and includes Intermediate Blue, Non-Specular Light Gray, and Non-Specular Sea Blue. The Europe set (#29478) emphasizes Olive Drab, Aluminum finishes, and Tuskegee Red for Army Air Forces in the European Theater. Q: Can I use these paints for dioramas as well as aircraft? Yes. The neutral grays, whites, and blues are excellent for naval dioramas, shipboard scenes, and Pacific island airstrips, as well as for finishing aircraft. Q: Do these paints work with both brushes and airbrushes? Yes. They are brush-ready straight from the bottle but can be thinned with water or acrylic medium for smooth airbrush application.   The Becker Signature Series sets are curated by former US Military Donald Becker.
