This 2018 release exemplifies Michter's unwavering dedication to quality, captured in Barrel No 18F867. Tasting Notes Nose: A captivating and assertive nose, bursting with rich caramel and toasted brown sugar, interwoven with ripe orchard fruits like baked apple and pear. Underlying notes of dark chocolate, vanilla bean, and a hint of warm baking spices—cinnamon, nutmeg, and a touch of clove—emerge, complemented by a subtle oak char and a whisper of dried tobacco leaf, indicative of its barrel strength. Palate: The palate delivers on the promise of the nose, offering a powerful yet remarkably balanced experience. A rush of syrupy caramel and butterscotch coats the mouth, quickly followed by complex layers of dark fruit (cherry, plum), burnt sugar, and a robust, spicy oak. Hints of roasted nuts, cocoa, and a comforting warmth from the higher proof are present, without being overwhelming or overly tannic. The mouthfeel is substantial and viscous. Finish: A long, lingering, and satisfying finish that slowly fades. Sweet oak notes persist, evolving into dark chocolate and espresso, with a delightful warmth that subtly radiates. Residual hints of dried fruit, leather, and a delicate spice (pepper, allspice) remain, inviting another sip. The higher proof ensures a lasting impression without any harshness.
