MicaSense Downwelling Light Sensor 2 (DLS 2)

The MicaSense Downwelling Light Sensor (DLS 2) is a precision incident light sensor designed to enhance the accuracy of multispectral data collection. Compatible with MicaSense sensors including the RedEdge 3, RedEdge-M, RedEdge-MX, and Altum, it records ambient light conditions and sun angle for each of the five spectral bands during flight. This data is embedded into image metadata, allowing processing software such as Pix4Dmapper to correct for changes in illumination caused by varying conditions like cloud cover. Beyond light measurement, the DLS 2 also provides GPS data directly to the MicaSense sensor. If an external GPS source is connected, the built-in GPS remains active at very low power (uBlox C/A code GPS @ 5 Hz) to ensure reliable synchronization.
