Mexican Green Sea Urchin

The Mexican Green Sea Urchin (Lytechinus variegatus) is a species of sea urchin found primarily in the Gulf of Mexico and the western Atlantic Ocean. It is characterized by its spherical body covered with long, slender spines that are typically greenish in color, giving it its name. The spines serve both as a defensive mechanism against predators and as a means of locomotion. These sea urchins inhabit shallow coastal waters, where they graze on algae and other marine vegetation using their specialized mouthparts located on the underside of their body. They play a crucial role in marine ecosystems by controlling algae growth and recycling nutrients. All sea life specimens vary slightly in size and shape. You will receive a high quality specimen of the selected item but not the exact one pictured.
