Midleton Method & Madness Single Pot Irish Whiskey finished in French Chestnut

This expression from the Method & Madness line is an adventurous and refined Irish Single Pot Still whiskey. The French chestnut-cask finish lends unusual woody depth, nutty richness and polished grain character—making it an excellent sipping whiskey with both elegance and experimental edge. Origins & Craftsmanship Produced at the historic Midleton Distillery in Cork, Ireland, this whiskey falls under the “single pot still” category (malted + unmalted barley distilled in pot stills). After initial maturation in bourbon and sherry barrels, it receives a finishing period in French chestnut casks—an unconventional choice among Irish whiskies. Bottled at 46% ABV (92 proof) with no age statement, it reflects the brand’s “experiment and explore” philosophy. Critics Reviews Reviewers at Tastings.com awarded it 93 points, noting “aromas of toasted pecan, baked apple, raspberry nougat, mint, rosemary and anise… the finish is very long with spiced cherries, dates, chocolate-caramel waffle, peach and dark chocolate.” On WhiskyRant, Johannes Lindblom gave it 91 points, praising the balance and describing the finish as “dry oak and grapes… figs and unripe apples” after water. BBC Good Food rated it 4.5 out of 5, with contributor Richard Davie highlighting the nose’s “spices led by ginger and cinnamon… herbal minty note,” and on the palate “lots of spices with oak and nut, ripe fruit and a hint of chocolate.” These professional evaluations emphasise the whiskey’s innovative wood programme, polished texture and layered flavour—positioning it among the most interesting modern Irish whiskies.
