Order your lead lined hollow metal door or your lead door and lead lined door frame package online now! Why Radiation is Dangerous? Machinery that emits radiation, such as X-ray machines and CT scanners, produce high levels of ionizing radiation. This type of radiation can damage DNA. Studies have also linked exposure to ionizing radiation to an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. Radiation can also cause other health problems, such as cataracts, skin burns, and reproductive issues. It is, therefore, imperative that radiation shielding is in place to protect people who work with or are near this type of machinery. How Lead Lined Hollow Metal Doors Provide Protection Lead lined metal doors provide an effective barrier against radiation. The lead blocks the ionizing radiation, preventing it from passing through the door and into the room beyond. The amount of lead required to provide adequate protection depends on the level of radiation present. You will need to check with your local health official or radiation physicist to determine the required lead shielding for your room. Lead lined metal doors are usually made with a lead lining that is between 1/16" and 1/2" thick. Lead lined metal doors can be either solid or hollow. Hollow metal doors are the most common type of lead door, as they are more durable and offer better protection against forced entry, ballistics and everyday wear and tear. Lead lined hollow metal doors are an important part of any radiation safety plan. When combined with other radiation safety measures, such as lead lined walls and lead lined windows, they provide a comprehensive solution for protecting people and equipment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation. What is a Lead Lined Hollow Metal Door? Lead doors are constructed with a lead-lined inner core that is sandwiched between two layers of metal. The lead-lined core provides the door with its radiation shielding properties. While lead doors can be made with materials, such as aluminum, steel is often used for the outer layers of the door, as it is robust and has a high resistance to impact. Why is a Lead Lined Door Frame Required? Having a lead door in place is only part of the solution. The door frame is also a critical part of the radiation safety plan. The door frame must be lead lined to provide a complete barrier against radiation. Lead Lined Hollow Metal Door Installation When installing lead lined doors, it is important to use qualified and experienced personnel. The door and frame must be properly sealed to prevent radiation from leaking through gaps or cracks. The door and frame must also be correctly installed to ensure that they can withstand the force of a blast or other impacts.
