Messenger Iris

Chala Toprak’s intricate, organic sculptures draw inspiration from the mythology and metamorphosis of the natural world, where clay becomes both symbol and vessel. This collection, a tribute to the Goddess Iris, channels the delicate strength of the flower she embodies—each piece a quiet homage to life’s cycles of bloom, transformation, and becoming. Formed by hand from a variety of clay bodies—iron-rich stoneware, porcelain, and sculptural blends—these works echo the layered beauty of petals in motion. The folds, curves, and textures speak not only to the fluidity of nature but to our own human fragility and resilience. As clay is hardened by fire, so too are we shaped by experience. Toprak’s sculptures invite pause: a reflection on the quiet strength found in softness, the sacred in growth, and the messages carried in even the most fleeting moments. In Toprak's words: Days, nights, seasons, and years, every fleeting second mirrors the journey of our lives. We bloom, we grow—fragile yet resilient, like the Iris, a symbol of delicate strength. We are like clay, molded by fire into something greater, something profound. This collection is dedicated to the Goddess Iris and its bloom on earth. She carries messages of hope and transformation, a timeless link that weaves through every piece in this collection. Each artwork is a celebration of life itself—a reminder to honor and embrace our own growth, regardless of the path we walk. From the organic flow of clay to the final caress of glaze, every detail whispers of Iris’s spirit. The movement of petals, the quiet unfolding of emotion, are captured through diverse clay bodies—from iron-rich stoneware to porcelain, to sculptural clay—each chosen to reflect the beauty and fragility of nature’s bloom.
