Mermaid Sculpture in Recycled Steel for Coastal Garden and Outdoor Decor for Home or Patio

Mermaid Under the Sun is more than a decorative piece—it’s a coastal-inspired sculpture carved from recycled steel, ready to bring a touch of sunlit charm to your home or garden. Measuring approximately 6" tall by 23" wide and 0.5" thick, this slender, airy figure casts elegant shadows as the day unfolds, adding movement and character to any space. Each Mermaid Under the Sun is handmade by Haitian artisans, using a time-honored technique popularized by Georges Liautaud in the late 1950s. The process starts with a chalked outline drawn on a flattened steel oil drum, then the mermaid form is carefully cut away by hand with a mallet and chisel. The result is a flowing silhouette with tactile texture and subtle variations that make every piece one-of-a-kind. Why this piece stands out: Sustainable artistry: crafted from repurposed steel oil drums, giving new life to material that might otherwise be wasted. Authentic craftsmanship: tactile, hand-cut surfaces reflect the artist’s technique and a deep heritage of metalwork. Real-world character: no two sculptures are exactly alike—dimensions and finish may vary slightly, underscoring its unique, handmade nature. Versatile display: perfect for sun-drenched walls, garden fences, patios, entryways, or a cozy sunroom vignette. Low-maintenance charm: simply wipe with a soft cloth to keep the texture and patina that give it depth and warmth. This piece is ideal for ocean lovers, collectors of sustainable art, or anyone seeking a striking, conversation-worthy focal point in a walkway, balcony, or living space. Use it to anchor a seating area, flank a doorway with coastal whimsy, or pair with weathered woods and natural fibers for a warm, sun-kissed look. Embrace the sunlit symbolism and handmade integrity of Mermaid Under the Sun. A durable, ethical artwork that invites daily moments of reflection and marine-inspired storytelling in any setting.
