Ultrasound Test Phantom Examination of an ultrasound test phantom with standard probe and/or array probe. Assessment of accuracy and performance of the ultrasound system with regard to resolution, dead zone and other parameters In the test, an ultrasound test phantom is examined with a standard probe and/or an array probe. Using rod-shaped targets arranged in the form of functional groups, the accuracy and performance of the ultrasound system used is assessed in terms of resolution, dead zone and other parameters. Keywords: sound propagation time, sound velocity, sound attenuation, sound field, reflection, A-image, B-image, gray value coding, resolution, focusing, transmit power, total gain, TGC, dynamic range, dead zone Ultrasound test phantoms are used for quality assurance and for routine control of the accuracy and performance of ultrasound imaging systems. Such test phantoms are also excellent test objects for the introduction to two-dimensional ultrasound imaging. The tissue-equivalent material of test phantoms for medical ultrasound systems generally has physical properties that are similar to the acoustic properties of human tissue. Various test structures can be embedded in the material, which enable an objective and comparable assessment of the imaging properties of ultrasound devices. GS200i: A-scans and hand-held B-scans of the phantom are recorded using the 2 MHz standard test. From time-of-flight measurements of the echoes of the vertical and horizontal test groups, an actual speed of sound in the phantom of approximately 1465 m/s is determined. GS200i or Gi210: Axial distance measurements in the B-mode scans taken with the array probe (left image) show a measurement error of approximately 5% when assuming a sound velocity of 1540 m/s. This value is an average of the sound velocities in various human tissues and is used as a standard value in many medical ultrasound systems. The investigation of the test groups for the axial and lateral resolution (right figure) shows an improvement in the resolution of the measuring system with increasing sound frequency as well as a deterioration with increasing measurement depth.
