McIntosh MC1.25KW

The MC1.25KW Quad Balanced Power Amplifier represents one of the most advanced amplifiers in the McIntosh lineup. Replacing the legendary MC1.2KW, it emerges as the most powerful single-chassis monoblock amplifier in the brand’s history. This 158-pound (71.7 kg) amplifier is a marvel of design and engineering—its imposing presence hints at the immense power and performance it delivers, but it’s only when you experience its sound that you truly grasp its capabilities. With an output of 1,200 Watts per channel and an exceptionally low total harmonic distortion of just 0.005%, the MC1.25KW provides unparalleled power to 2, 4, or 8 Ohm speakers, thanks to McIntosh's Autoformer™ technology. A pair of these amplifiers can serve as the centerpiece of a home audio system capable of competing with some of the world’s finest stereo setups. The MC1.25KW incorporates numerous enhancements over its predecessor, including a 50% increase in filter capacity, which significantly improves low-end frequency performance and boosts dynamic headroom. The amplifier features a redesigned industrial look that aligns seamlessly with both current and classic McIntosh products. Its audio Autoformer and power transformer are housed in newly designed glass-topped enclosures, with a central circular glass insert that proudly displays the amplifier's name, complemented by a decorative trim ring. The rear panel showcases four McIntosh Monogrammed Heatsinks™, made from high-quality materials with superior thermal conductivity. These heatsinks are incredibly efficient at heat dissipation, allowing the amplifier to deliver consistent performance throughout long listening sessions. They are connected to high-current output transistors that eliminate warm-up time, ensuring that every note, right from the start, sounds flawless. The heatsinks are finished with matching aluminum ventilation trim plates, and the chassis is topped with polished stainless steel. Redesigned feet with chamfered edges add a touch of refinement, while the repositioned AC receptacle allows for better clearance for a wider range of power cords. Further updates include a newly designed power transformer, thicker internal wiring, upgraded circuit components, and an integrated power management system that automatically powers down the amplifier after a set period of inactivity. While many aspects have been refined, the signature elements of the MC1.25KW remain unchanged, including the iconic 11” (27.9 cm) blue Watt meter that provides an accurate display of the amplifier’s power output. The front panel retains its classic black glass, illuminated logo, and aluminum end caps with handles. The meter now features enhanced direct LED backlighting for improved appearance and color accuracy.
