Matisse VII – The Heart Postcard

This exclusive postcard was created in celebration of the exhibition Matisse’s "Jazz" Unbound on view at the de Young museum, located in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, California. Henri Matisse, VII – The Heart, 1947. Printed in the USA. Measures 5 x 7 in.    Consisting of a portfolio book of twenty plates featuring abstract compositions, inspired by circus, ballet, and historical events, Jazz (1947) is considered the culminating masterpiece of Henri Matisse as a graphic artist, reflecting his deeper more experimental involvement with printmaking and cutouts. In Matisse's development of the cutout technique, Jazz marks a creative milestone, as the cutout is used for the first time as a medium rather than a compositional tool.
