How to Install a Mane Extension Before You Begin Start with a clean, dry mane. Brush through the horse's natural mane and the extension. Match the extension placement with the horse's existing mane for the most natural look. Installation Section off a small amount of the horse's mane where you want the extension. Secure the extension to the braid or attachment point according to your extension design utilizing the kit provided - refer to videos provided. Blend the horse's natural hair over the attachment. Gently brush to ensure a seamless appearance. Style as desired for the class or event. Pro Tip: Less is often more. Proper placement creates fullness without looking bulky. Daily Care Brush gently from the ends upward. Hold the hair above where you're brushing to reduce stress on the attachment. Use a soft-bristle or extension-safe brush. Keep the extension clean and free of bedding and burrs. Braid the mane when not showing to reduce tangles. Before Showing Remove any shavings or dust. Lightly mist with a conditioning spray if needed (avoid heavy oils near the attachment). Smooth flyaways with a soft brush. Double-check that the attachment is secure before entering the pen. After Showing Gently brush out tangles. Remove excess show sheen buildup if necessary. Utilize a loose braid if wearing the extension overnight and a sleazy. If removing the extension, brush it out before storing. Washing Only wash when needed. Use cool to lukewarm water. Apply a mild sulfate-free shampoo. Rinse thoroughly. Apply conditioner mainly to the mid-lengths and ends. Allow to air dry completely before storing or reinstalling. Avoid twisting or wringing the hair. Storage Store clean and completely dry. Keep in a breathable bag or protective sleeve. Avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat. Brush before storing to prevent matting. Tips for Long-Lasting Extensions Never yank through knots. Keep horses from rubbing whenever possible. Avoid excessive silicone sprays at the attachment. Remove before prolonged turnout if recommended for your style of extension. Regular maintenance will significantly extend the life of the extension. Frequently Asked Questions Can I leave my mane extension in all week? Yes, if it's installed correctly and maintained daily. Check the attachment regularly. Some horses do better than others with the extensions. Can I ride and train with it? Absolutely. Just inspect it after each ride and brush it daily. Will it damage my horse's mane? When properly installed, maintained, and removed, a quality extension should not damage the natural mane but as mentioned prior, some horses do better than others with the extensions. How long will it last? With proper care, a quality mane extension can last through many shows and multiple seasons, depending on frequency of use and maintenance.
