Malachite Polished Touchstone

This polished 1.75" long Malachite Medicine Bag Stone, weighing 44 grams or 1.55 oz., displays an array of dark green swirls on a light green background. Malachite is composed of around 60% copper, and is birthed through a complex process in which copper rich rock formations are bathed in water containing carbon dioxide or carbonate bearing minerals.  The swirling patterns characteristic of this green copper stone are created by the ebb and flow of the carbonated water surrounding the original rock formation. Malachite was used in medieval Italy to ward off the evil eye. People wore malachite stones with prominent swirls resembling eyes, placed bracelets of malachite in their infants' cribs, and held the stone in their hands to promote peaceful sleep. You can see the twin "eyes" of this protective medicine bag stone in the picture below. Ayurvedic practitioners in India have traditionally used a paste made of malachite to treat kidney stones. These yogic gemstone healers say that malachite works to equilibrate the body's electromagnetic field, and can relieve kidney pain. Malachite's green coloration indicates a resonance with the heart chakra, which is considered to be either pink or green in the Western chakra system. Malachite provides protection from ambient negative emotional energies and soothes the aching heart while helping to provide a safe energetic field for spiritual practices designed to open the heart and embrace the Universe with compassion and unconditional love.
