Making Simple Robots Starter Pack

Making Simple Robots Starter Pack Grades: 6–12+ Number of Students: 1–2 Number of Lessons: NA Hours of Content: NA Additional Resources: Instruction/Bonus Projects, Templates   Highlights: Anybody can build a robot. That includes kids, parents, grandparents and educators, anyone with engineering aspirations and maker dreams will find this the perfect entry level into crafting, circuitry, robotics and coding - micro:bit included! This companion starter pack has all the electronics you'll need and then some for the projects in Making Simple Robots, 2nd Edition, by Kathy Ceceri (book included). The projects in the book will teach you about electric circuits by making jumping origami frogs with eyes that light up when you get them ready to hop. You'll practice designing all-terrain robot wheel-legs with free, online Tinkercad software, and you'll create files ready for 3D printing. You'll also learn to sew -- and code -- a cyborg rag doll with a blinking electronic "eye." Each project in the INCLUDED book contains step-by-step directions and clear illustrations and photographs. Along the way, you'll learn about the real research behind the DIY version, find shortcuts for making projects easier when needed, and get suggestions for adding to the challenge as your skill set grows.  The BBC micro:bit is a pocket-sized computer that introduces you to how software and hardware work together. It has an LED light display, buttons, sensors and many input/output features that you can program and physically interact with. The latest micro:bit adds sound sensing and playback capabilities. Is the micro:bit a computer or a microcontroller? You might also hear the micro:bit referred to as a microcontroller. The board contains a microcontroller that can be programmed to perform specific tasks, but it also has input and output devices like buttons and an LED display which makes it more than a microcontroller. A microprocessor plus memory, storage and physical input/output devices make a computer like the one you are reading this article on. The micro:bit is just a pocket-sized one.
