Maker's Mark Red Wax 1999

Experience a rare piece of bourbon history with the 1999 Maker's Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky. This 'HANDMADE' expression, crafted with their signature wheated mash bill, delivers an incredibly smooth and complex profile, showcasing the exceptional character of this vintage. A true testament to time and craftsmanship. Tasting Notes Nose: A captivating and surprisingly vibrant nose, given its age. Initial waves of sweet caramel and vanilla bean immediately greet the senses, typical of Maker's Mark's wheated mash bill. This is quickly followed by delicate red fruit notes, specifically cherry and dried apricot, hinting at a matured fruitiness. Subtle undertones of toasted oak, baking spice (cinnamon and nutmeg), and a faint floral whisper, perhaps rose petals, emerge with further exploration. There's a comforting warmth, free from any ethanol harshness. Palate: The palate delivers on the promise of the nose, offering a wonderfully creamy and soft texture that coats the tongue. Rich, buttery caramel and vanilla are at the forefront, balanced beautifully by a refined oak presence that isn't overpowering but provides depth. The red fruit character intensifies, presenting as candied cherry and blackberry jam, interwoven with a gentle rye-like spice that manifests as a mild pepperiness or ginger snap. A subtle nutty quality, reminiscent of marzipan or almond, adds further complexity. Despite its 90 proof, it drinks incredibly smoothly, showcasing its well-integrated alcohol. Finish: A medium-long and satisfying finish that lingers pleasantly. The sweet caramel and vanilla notes slowly fade, giving way to a warm, lingering oak spice and a hint of dark chocolate. The fruity elements make a final, elegant appearance as dried cherry and a touch of orange zest. There's a subtle dryness that invites another sip, leaving a memorable impression of warmth and sophistication.
