This vintage expression offers an unparalleled depth of flavor, showcasing the iconic wheated profile mellowed exquisitely over decades. Experience a truly unique and refined journey through time with every sip of this legendary Kentucky Straight Bourbon. Tasting Notes Nose: A captivating and complex bouquet immediately greets the senses. Rich caramel and vanilla are prominent, interwoven with a distinct nuttiness, likely from aged wheat. Hints of dried fruit, especially apricot and fig, emerge alongside subtle oak spice, leather, and a whisper of antique furniture. The classic Maker's Mark floral notes are present, but mellowed and integrated, giving way to an earthy, almost musty library-like quality that speaks to its age. Palate: The entry is soft and velvety, coating the tongue with a delightful sweetness. Initial notes of browned butter, honey, and marzipan give way to a sophisticated interplay of baking spices – cinnamon, nutmeg, and a touch of clove. The wheated mash bill truly shines here, offering a creamy texture and mitigating any harshness. Mid-palate, darker notes of bittersweet chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and dried orange peel develop. The oak influence is substantial but impeccably integrated, showcasing a depth of character without being overwhelmingly tannic. Finish: Long, warm, and exceptionally elegant. The sweetness recedes gracefully, leaving behind lingering echoes of oak, vanilla, and a pleasant peppery spice. A subtle nutty character persists, alongside a delightful dryness that encourages another sip. The absence of an age statement belies a maturity that expresses itself in a round and harmonious conclusion, with no harsh edges whatsoever. A faint, sweet tobacco leaf and old leather note lingers gracefully. About the Distillery Maker's Mark, founded by Bill Samuels Sr. in the 1950s, is renowned for its iconic red wax-dipped bottles and its pioneering use of winter wheat instead of rye in its mash bill. This technique results in a smoother, sweeter, and more approachable bourbon, setting it apart in the Kentucky bourbon landscape. The Star Hill Distilling Co. is the original name of the Maker's Mark distillery, underscoring its heritage.
