Maker's Mark 375ML

Maker's Mark 375ML is a Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof) in a convenient half-bottle format. A Gold Medal winner at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, this wheated small batch bourbon remains one of the most recognizable and widely respected expressions in American whiskey. Quick Facts: ABV: 45% (90 Proof)  |  Origin: Loretto, Kentucky, USA  |  Style: Wheated Small Batch Bourbon  |  Distillery: Maker's Mark Distillery (Suntory Global Spirits) Production & Heritage Maker's Mark Distillery, located in Loretto, Kentucky, has been producing bourbon using the same recipe since its founding by Bill Samuels Sr. in 1953. The mashbill of 70% corn, 16% soft red winter wheat, and 14% malted barley deliberately substitutes wheat for the rye grain found in most bourbons, yielding a rounder, less spicy spirit. Production runs in small batches of roughly 1,000 gallons — about 20 barrels at a time — and the distillery is one of the few operations that hand-rotates every barrel from upper to lower warehouse levels during aging to ensure even maturation. Rather than adhering to a fixed age statement, Maker's Mark ages each batch to taste, pulling barrels only when the liquid meets the distillery's flavor benchmark. Tasting Notes Aroma: Sweet caramel and light brown sugar greet the nose first, followed by ripe pear and baked apple. Underneath, there are subtle traces of vanilla, orange citrus, and toasted oak. Taste: The entry is soft and sweet, led by orchard fruit — pear especially — alongside caramel and brown sugar. Mid-palate brings candied pecans and a gentle butterscotch richness, with faint cherry sweetness adding depth. The body is relatively light for a 90-proof bourbon, keeping the wheat-forward character front and center. Finish: Medium in length, the finish shifts from sweetness toward increasingly dry barrel char, black pepper spice, and mild tannins. It leaves behind a clean, creamy impression with lingering warm spice that fades gradually. How to Drink Maker's Mark Neat or with a single ice cube is the simplest way to appreciate the wheat-driven softness and caramel core. A few drops of water can open up the orchard-fruit aromatics without thinning the body. Whiskey Sour: The natural sweetness and light body integrate cleanly with fresh citrus and egg white, producing a balanced, silky cocktail. Old Fashioned: Maker's Mark provides a smooth, non-bitter base that lets bitters and orange peel shine without fighting spicy rye heat. Mint Julep: The classic Kentucky pairing — wheat-based softness and brown-sugar notes complement fresh mint and crushed ice beautifully. Maker's Mark is a soft, approachable bourbon dominated by caramel, brown sugar, pear, and vanilla, with mild oak spice on the finish. The wheat-heavy mashbill keeps it smooth and free of the sharp bite associated with rye-forward bourbons. How does Maker's Mark compare to Larceny Small Batch? Both are wheated bourbons in the same general price tier, but Maker's Mark tends to lean more toward caramel and orchard fruit, while Larceny often presents slightly more butterscotch and honey sweetness. Maker's Mark is bottled at 90 proof versus Larceny's 92 proof, giving Larceny a marginally fuller body. Is Maker's Mark good for beginners? Yes — the wheated mashbill produces a mild, sweet profile that rarely overwhelms, making it one of the most commonly recommended starting points for new bourbon drinkers. It works equally well neat, on the rocks, or in cocktails. Where is Maker's Mark made? Maker's Mark is distilled, aged, and bottled at the Maker's Mark Distillery in Loretto, Marion County, Kentucky. The distillery campus, designated a National Historic Landmark, is owned by Suntory Global Spirits. What foods pair well with Maker's Mark? Smoked pork ribs complement the bourbon's caramel sweetness; dark chocolate truffles echo its brown-sugar depth; pecan pie mirrors the nutty undertones; sharp cheddar provides a savory counterpoint to the fruit notes; and grilled peaches amplify the orchard-fruit character. What sizes does Maker's Mark come in? Maker's Mark is widely available in 375ml, 750ml, 1L, and 1.75L bottles, making it easy to choose the right volume for personal use or gifting. Is Maker's Mark worth the price? Maker's Mark positions as an accessible, entry-level premium bourbon that consistently over-delivers for its price tier. With Gold Medal recognition at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and scores in the 90–95 range from Wine Enthusiast, it represents strong value among wheated bourbons. Why Maker's Mark? What genuinely separates Maker's Mark from the crowded bourbon shelf is the combination of its wheat-forward mashbill and hands-on production discipline. Hand-rotating every barrel during aging is a labor-intensive step most distilleries skip, but it delivers the batch-to-batch consistency that has kept this bourbon a benchmark for decades. The 375ml format is particularly practical — it provides enough liquid for several neat pours or a round of cocktails without the commitment of a full bottle. For a wheated bourbon that has earned Gold Medal accolades and critical scores above 90, Maker's Mark remains a dependable standard in its class.
