Make: Bluetooth

There's no doubt that the introduction of the smartphone has changed our world. Harness the power of that technology for yourself by learning to build and control your environment with Bluetooth LE. With this book, you'll become familiar with such hardware options as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Node.js, and PhoneGap. From there, you'll write code and wire circuits to connect off-the-shelf sensors, and even write your own Bluetooth Services!   Using just one platform, the widely available Nordic Semiconductor radio, this book takes you step-by-step through projects that build your skills as you go. Intermediate Makers with some technical background will love working with Bluetooth across platforms—whether IOS, Android, Linux, or Windows—to configure any OS for the Arduino, add node.js, install PhoneGap, and make incredible projects. Learning Bluetooth LE takes your skills to the next level!   Projects Included Construct a “smart” light switch you can control remotely Create a BLE Lock that only your phone can open Build a real working weather station that measures temperature, humidity, and air pressure Make a NeoPixel LED lamp you can control from anywhere in range to change to any color Control your computer slideshow with a TI SensorTag remote Develop an HID that you can use to control volume Run a Parrot Rolling Spider drone using a computer and Node.js   Meet the Authors Alasdair Allan Alasdair Allan is a Scientist, Author, Hacker and Tinkerer, and co-founder of a startup working on fixing the Internet of Things. He is the author of a number of books, and from time to time he also stands in front of cameras. He is a contributing editor for Make: magazine, and a contributor to the O'Reilly Radar. A few years ago he caused a privacy scandal by uncovering that your iPhone was recording your location all the time. This caused several class action lawsuits and a U.S. Senate hearing. Several years on, he still isn't sure what to think about that. Alasdair is a former academic. As part of his work he built a distributed peer-to-peer network of telescopes which, acting autonomously, reactively scheduled observations of time-critical events. Notable successes included contributing to the detection of what--at the time--was the most distant object yet discovered.   Don Coleman Don Coleman is a lifelong engineer who has come full circle, from mechanical to software and now to hardware, bridging the gap between all disciplines. Don is a seasoned PhoneGap developer who has embraced it since its inception, and has spoken across the country about the benefits and advantages of using PhoneGap. As the Director of Consulting for Chariot Solutions, a software consulting company near Philadelphia, PA, he works with teams and clients to reinvent their existing technology and lay the groundwork for the future.   Sandeep Mistry Sandeep Mistry is a professional software engineer, who enjoys tinkering with the Internet of Things and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices. Sandeep is the creator of noble and bleno, two cross-platform node.js BLE libraries.
