Macular Support +

Neurobiologix Macular Support + Targeted Support for Macular Function  Macular Support + is an advanced eye health formula designed to protect the structural integrity and long-term function of the macula, the retinal area responsible for sharp and detailed vision. It targets three key mechanisms: macular pigment protection, retinal oxidative stress defense, visual performance, and photoreceptor support. This formulation comprises key macular carotenoids (lutein and zeaxanthin), antioxidant micronutrients (vitamins A, C, and E, together with zinc), and selected polyphenol-rich botanical extracts, including bilberry, grape seed, and turmeric, in addition to palmitoylethanolamide (PEA). In combination, these constituents are intended to support macular pigment density, retinal oxidative stress, neuroinflammatory balance, and microvascular health. Powered by lutein and zeaxanthin, antioxidant vitamins, zinc, and plant-based extracts like bilberry, grape seed, and turmeric, Macular Support + helps defend the delicate macula — the part of the eye responsible for sharp, detailed central vision — from everyday oxidative stress. It also features palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) to support retinal health and overall eye comfort. Whether you’re looking to maintain visual clarity, support healthy macular function, or promote long-term eye wellness, Macular Support + provides targeted nutritional support to help keep your eyes performing at their best. The etiology of macular degeneration is multifactorial, driven by a complex interplay of genetic predisposition, environmental factors, cellular senescence, and light-induced oxidative stress. The exceptionally high metabolic activity of a healthy retina generates continuous oxidative stress, which, if not neutralized, compromises mitochondrial function and leads to the loss of photoreceptors and retinal pigment epithelium cells. Nutritional genomics has demonstrated that genetic variants involved in oxidative stress pathways and lipid metabolism substantially modulate both the susceptibility to and the progression of macular degeneration. In this context, precision nutrition emerges as a prominent and relevant approach, as it enables the formulation of individualized nutritional strategies based on the genetic profile and specific metabolic characteristics of each individual. Macular Carotenoids (Lutein and Zeaxanthin) Lutein and zeaxanthin are dietary xanthophyll carotenoids that preferentially accumulate in the macular region of the retina, where they function as optical filters for high-energy short-wavelength (blue) light and as highly effective quenchers of reactive oxygen species. Evidence from randomized clinical trials indicates that supplementation with these carotenoids significantly attenuates the progression of foveal geographic atrophy and contributes to the preservation of central visual function in individuals with age-related macular degeneration. Antioxidant Vitamins and Zinc Combined vitamin C and E supplementation has a synergistic effect that disrupts free radical–mediated reactions, reducing the risk of progression to advanced age-related macular degeneration. Zinc, abundant in the retinal pigment epithelium, acts as an essential enzymatic cofactor and modulator of metallothioneins, helping maintain structural integrity and providing antioxidant protection against photo-oxidative damage and chronic inflammation. Turmeric Extract (Curcuminoids) Epidemiological evidence indicates that turmeric-derived nutritional supplementation is associated with a statistically significant reduction in the incidence of both exudative and nonexudative forms of age-related macular degeneration. The principal bioactive constituent, curcumin, appears to confer pharmacological protection by attenuating the generation of reactive oxygen species and downregulating chronic inflammatory mediators that are critically involved in the pathophysiological mechanisms of the disease. Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA)  Palmitoylethanolamide is an endogenous lipid amide with natural neuroprotective activity in the retina, protecting against neurodegeneration. It confers protection to retinal pigment epithelium cells against apoptosis induced by oxidative stress and toxic visual cycle–derived metabolites by suppressing pro-apoptotic and pro-inflammatory intracellular signaling pathways. Microvascular and Antisenescence Support (Grape Seed, Bilberry, and Lycopene) Grape seed extract moderates retinal pigment epithelium senescence by regulating nucleotide metabolism and activating pathways that suppress inflammasomes. Anthocyanin-rich blueberries are linked to reduced macular degeneration risk and improved ocular microcirculation. Lycopene reduces oxidative stress and retinal cell loss, protecting ocular tissues from progressive photo-oxidative damage.
