M.S. Santos Maru 1936

This is lovely vintage menu cover art from the Santos Maru, the first passenger motor vessel to be built in Japan. The ship did a westbound round-the-world service to South Asia, South Africa, South American and the Gulf and Pacific coasts of the United States. A cargo ship, there was room for only 38 passengers on board but their accommodation was luxurious. Interestingly, although the menu cover is Japanese, the food that the guests were served was decidedly American. Courtesy Herbert Beazley Collection. Gallery quality Giclée print on natural white, matte, 100% cotton rag, acid and lignin free archival paper using Epson archival inks. Custom printed with border for matting and framing. All printed in USA. Each product is accompanied by a copy of the interior menu where available.
