Lyman is one of the few truly great names in American boatbuilding.  Founded in 1875, Lyman Boats quickly established a regional reputation for quality lapstrake rowboats and sailboats.  The company moved from Cleveland to Sandusky, Ohio, expanded its model offerings, helped establish the "utility boat" as a favorite among the boating public, and began offering inboards as well as outboards as it survived the Great Depression. Following World War II, Lyman production expanded to more than 4,000 boats a year, giving thousands of Americans years of enjoyment at the helm of a Lyman.  As Peter Spectre has written in Wooden Boat of the days when new Lyman Boats were king, "Anybody who had an appreciation for powerboats of any kind had a Lyman or wanted a Lyman, or knew someone who had a Lyman or was saving up his money to buy a Lyman."   Lyman Boats:  Legend of the Lakes is the definitive, all-inclusive history of the "Clinker-Built" boats that defined the lapstrake hull.  Author Tom Koroknay aka "Doc Lyman" has used his exclusive access to the original Lyman archives to tell the story of the Lyman family, their successful business, and the boats they built. Anthony S. Mollica Jr., author of Gar Wood Boats has graciously written the forward for this exciting historical text.  Era by era, model by model, Koroknay details the development of the lapstrake boats proudly built by the Lyman family and their employees.  The book is illustrated with more than 120 rare black and white photographs selected from the Lyman archives, as well as about 70 modern color photos of various Lyman boats.  Also included in the last chapter are the original Lyman hull records listing all of the different models and the number built.  This is a must have volume for any classic boat enthusiast.  Proudly printed in the USA!
