As an alternative, glass is non porous and will not absorb anything!  This means you never have to worry about transferring anything between batches - bad bacteria, mold or smells and flavors.  We searched high and low for an alternative to the ceramic weights, and when we couldn't find a manufacturer who makes a non-porous crock weight, we decided to design our own!  The Luna Glass Crock Weights are a Stone Creek Trading exclusive item, invented and patented by us! (Patents D812,426 and 10,034,483 B2) In addition to being non-porous, the Luna Glass Crock Weights are 15% heavier than the traditional porous ceramic weights.  The added weight helps keep your ferment submerged where you want it! The 6.5" diameter is sized for the 5L Boleslawiec crocks, while the 8.5" diameter is sized for a 10 Liter Boleslawiec crock.  We also have two smaller 4.5" and 5.5" sizes for small crocks and a 7.5" for in between crocks as well.  Our customers have found that these weights work for a variety fermenting vessels! These glass weights are individually handmade, which may result in a small variation in size.  It is our recommendation that the interior diameter of your crock should be at least 1/2" larger than the diameter of the weight. If you've bought a crock somewhere else, these weights are a great way to upgrade your fermenting set up.  No more worrying about using the same weights in different recipes or how to clean them!         Dimensions:  Weights and dimensions are approximate.                 One pair of two weights as pictured, all sizes  Diameter Thickness Weight Vessel Size 4.5" ~3/4" 1 lb for vessels with interior diameter of 5"+ 5.5" ~3/4" 1.5 lbs for vessels with interior diameter of 6"+ 6.5" ~1" 2.75 lbs for vessels with interior diameter of 7"+ 7.5" ~1" 3.75 lbs for vessels with interior diameter of 8"+ 8.5" ~1" 4.5 lbs for vessels with interior diameter of 9"+           Material:    Unleaded Glass         Country of Origin:    Poland         Manufacturer:    Stone Creek Trading         UPC:  4.5" - 739189966738                   5.5" - 739189966356                   6.5" - 723175299337                   7.5" - 739189966363                   8.5" - 723175299559 Protected by US Patents D812,426 and 10,034,483 B2.  Luna Glass is a registered trademark.
