The horse is the seventh animal in the twelve-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac, long revered in Chinese mythology as a symbol of strength, vitality, and freedom. Horses appear as celestial beings and loyal companions in epic tales such as Journey to the West, where the dragon disguised as a horse faithfully carries the monk across perilous lands. The horseshoe itself is also a widely recognized symbol of protection, prosperity, and good fortune. While meanings vary, the inverted horseshoe can be seen as allowing good fortune to pour outward, pouring luck upon others while protecting those within. The shape also evokes the shape of a rainbow. Worn upright, the horseshoe appears cradled by clouds.
