Ivory billed woodpeckers once populated the entire southern U.S. They need old growth forests with plentiful snags to feed from as they only want big, fat grubs to eat. 19th century ornithologists helped wipe them out by paying locals to bring them dead birds to stuff for collectors. Sweet gum is their favorite nesting tree, so I placed my birds on this fabulous tree with the Suwannee River as a backdrop. Reduction linocut in 4 layers printed on etching press with Gamblin and Charbonel inks, Edition of 12 original hand-pulled prints. Sweetwater Picture Framing offers an archival fine art print of this work.
