Long Leaf Sphagnum Moss

Moss Acres’ Long Leaf Sphagnum Moss Long Leaf Sphagnum Moss comes in a 1 Cubic FT. Box, or a 4 Cubic FT. Bale for a variety of uses. FOR ORCHIDS Our sphagnum moss is excellent for orchids by retaining moisture and nutrients. It requires loose application, good airflow, and careful watering to avoid suffocating roots. FOR KOKEDAMA Long Leaf Sphagnum can be used for a variation of the traditional Japanese art form Kokedama. A plant’s root is wrapped in long-fiber sphagnum moss and secured with string. This moss serves as the “pot,” creating a self-contained, organic, and sculptural display that can be hung or placed on a decorative surface. DIY Kokedama Instructions The general process for creating a kokedama with long leaf sphagnum moss involves the following steps: 1. ) Gather a small-to-medium-sized plant, long-fiber sphagnum moss, a soil mixture, twine or string, and water. 2. ) The dried sphagnum moss is first soaked in water to make it pliable and easy to work with. 3. ) The plant’s roots are gently cleared of excess soil and then encased in a ball of the pre-moistened soil mixture. 4. ) Wrap with Moss: The soil ball is wrapped with a generous layer of the damp long-fiber sphagnum moss. 5. ) The moss-covered ball is tightly and repeatedly wrapped with twine or string to hold the structure securely in place. The string can also be used to create loops for hanging. With proper care and maintenance, your new Kokedama ball can last for several years. Soak in a bowl of room-temperature water for 5-15 minutes or until fully saturated, then allow to drip dry. Generally, the ball is soaked only when it feels light and dry to the touch. Ensure it receives the appropriate amount of light, and mist it regularly to help maintain the high humidity levels that the moss and most suitable plants prefer.
