The Clash, London Calling

Embroidery stitched directly through a vinyl record sleeve.  12x12x2 inches, framed in acrylic.      There are no music fans who grew up in the 70’s or the 80’s who weren’t fans of the Clash, each of their 6 studio albums were unique and musically different, the Clash merged punk, rock and roll and pop to truly create a unique sound. London Calling is my favorite Clash album so it was the first of their albums that I wanted to embroider. The graphics for the album are based on a self titled Elvis album from the 1950’s with a striking black and white image with graphic lettering down the side, The Elvis album was the first one of his  that I created as well. I decided to use bold strokes of yarn embroidery to create both graphics and the typography on this piece.
