Log Wash Wood Cleaner

Log Wash™ is a pH balanced, liquid concentrate for cleaning both exterior and interior log and wood surfaces. It can be used as a maintenance cleaner and/ or to prepare the surface of wood for a maintenance coat of stain or topcoat, especially wood on which Perma-Chink Systems products have been applied. For preparing the surface of bare wood for a new coat of stain, Log Wash removes dirt, grime, pollen, and surface mold and mildew without harming the wood or the finish. High pH bleach solutions, common household cleaners and even mild dishwashing soaps which may soften finished wood surfaces potentially damaging the wood finish. Log Wash does not upset the natural pH balance of the wood, thus preventing wood fiber damage and iron tannate stains. Log Wash does not require the use of a pressure washer but only a garden hose and sprayer attachment for rinsing which is better for your wood. The exterior of a log home is a settling ground for dust, pollen and other airborne contaminants that dull the surface and encourage mold growth. A light cleaning once or twice a year will keep a home looking beautiful and helps prolong the life of the exterior wood finish. Over-the-counter products recommended for general maintenance cleaning like Spic & Span, Mr. Clean or even mild dishwashing soaps softened finished surfaces during the cleaning process. This resulted in potential finish damage especially if a pressure washer or a brush was used. It turned out that the one thing these cleaners all had in common was their high pH. Log Wash has a low pH which is better for cleaning, especially wood coated with Perma-Chink Systems finishes.   Removes dirt, grime, pollen and surface mold and mildew Will not harm finishes that are in good condition. No pressure washer needed. Use garden hose with sprayer attachment Easy to use with a soft bristle brush and a garden hose PH balanced. Gently cleans bare and finished wood Safe for log chinking and sealants Environmentally friendly Please note: While Log Wash is excellent for use on bare wood, Perma-Chink Systems suggests using Wood Renew to remove mill glaze which is prominent on half log siding, evident on most full logs and some deck wood. Log Wash will not remove graying in wood. If you are applying Perma-Chink Systems exterior finishes to new, bare wood with extensive mill glaze, use Wood Re-New to remove mill glaze and to restore weathered wood to so as not affect the PCS exterior warranty. For homes on which Perma-Chink Systems wood finishes will not be applied, please refer to X-180 Weathered Wood Restorer, All Wood Cleaner and KleenStart.   Coverage 150-200 sq.ft. / Gallon of diluted Log Wash solution Maintenance Cleaning Add one (1) cup of Log Wash to one (1) gallon of water and mix thoroughly. Using bleach to clean wood may produce a chemical reaction with the outer wood fiber forming a film that can cause some paints and stains to not adequately penetrate the surface. The lack of penetration causes adhesion problems and can result in stains and paint separating from the wood surface and failing. Bleaching wood can also result in streaking and striping of the stain or paint applied. Log Wash can be used to prepare bare wood for a new coat of stain or as a maintenance wash. Log Wash removes dirt, grime, pollen, surface mold and mildew without harming the wood or the finish. Log Wash cleans the surface of wood without upsetting the wood’s natural pH balance.   Using Log Wash as a Maintenance Cleaner Plan on cleaning small areas at a time since Log Wash needs to stay wet in order to do its job. Remember, apply Log Wash from the bottom up, and rinse it off from the top down. This will help prevent streaks and drip marks. Add one (1) cup of Log Wash to one (1) gallon of water and mix well. Warm water (not hot) works better than cold water. Do not add more than one cup per gallon. Start by wetting down the wall with mist from your garden hose. Apply the Log Wash solution starting at the bottom of the wall and work your way up. Work only an area big enough so that the Log Wash is on the wall for about 5 to 10 minutes. Gently scrub the wall with a soft bristled brush. Use a mist setting on the hose nozzle thoroughly rinsing the Log Wash from the top down until the foaming stops.   Using Log Wash as a Stain Prep Cleaner Add two (2) cups of Log Wash to one (1) gallon of water and mix.
