Made from 100% cotton rope of cotton grown locally and sustainably in South Africa.  The name of these pretty baskets reflects the ingenuity of the women who make them. Load shedding, a very common inconvenience of life in South Africa, is a temporary reduction in electricity supply to prevent a blackout. Instead of sitting idle and waiting until power is restored, the women artisans of Mia Mélange decided to create a design that could be made by hand, the old-fashioned way: while sitting in the sunshine. Adding this product to their collection also enabled them to ensure consistent work and income. Mia Mélange is a proudly South African brand that handcrafts interior décor and lifestyle products that marry traditional methods with modern style. All products are made with great care and attention to detail in their studio in the scenic Winelands town of Stellenbosch by a team of local women artisans.
