Living Responsibly

A Torah Perspective on Maximizing the Gift of Life From among the letters of approbation and blessing: My friend HaRav HaGaon R’ Yirmiyohu Abramov, shlita and his wife, are one of the greatest people in our generation who bring the many to righteousness. They have written a book “Living Responsibly”, that we have to value the gift of life that we have received from Hashem Yisborach, and it is our responsibility to safeguard our bodies in health, so that we can serve Hashem Yisborach for long days and years “Bebriyus Gufa Venehora Maaliya” — with a healthy body and elevated enlightenment. The Rambam wrote at length about this in Hilchos Dayos and in Hilchos Shemiras Haguf VeHanefesh and it is certainly a great mitzvah. All of our Sages were careful in these matters “VeAmina LePaala Tava Yishar”— and they are trusted to conduct themselves correctly and the merit of many depends on them.  May it be His Will that this book will be well received and will encourage and awaken both the public and the individual to strengthen themselves in these matters and to safeguard the value of our holy lives, so that we will merit to serve Hashem Yisborach in joy and contentment with healthy souls and with healthy bodies… HaGaon Rabbi Moshe Mordechai Karp, shlita  Kiryat Sefer I join the above concerning the law of “VeNishmartem etc.,” that it is an obligation to stay away from things that endanger the body and the soul, and the author did well to put these matters in writing. HaGaon Rabbi Azriel Auerbach, shlita Rabbi of “Chaniche HaYeshivot”   Bayit Vegan, Jerusalem I too signed below join the words of the Gaonim Rabbi Moshe Mordechai Karp, shlita and  the words of my brother-in-law Rabbi Azriel Auerbach, and knowledge and health should increase in Am Yisroel, a holy nation to the glory of the Torah and those who study it. HaGaon Rabbi Yitzchak Zilberstein, shlita  Rabbi of Ramat Elchanan, Bnei Brak My dear friend HaRav Yirmiyohu Abramov who is one of the greatest people who have merited to bring the many to righteousness has already merited to write important books together with his wife the Rebbetzin. These books on the topic of Kibbud Av VeAim and Tznius, have been well received and many have greatly benefitted from them. Now they merit to publish a great and precious pearl on the topic of the obligation  to safeguard one’s physical and spiritual health.  Our Sages have taught greatly about the mitzvah for a person to conduct himself in  a correct manner and to safeguard his body which is the sanctuary of the soul, as is explained by the Rambam in several places. I am certain that this book too will bring great benefit to all those who read it, and my blessing is that they merit, for a long time to come, to bring merit to the public in serenity and contentment… HaGaon Rabbi Asher Zelig Weiss, shlita Av Beis Din and Rosh Yeshivah, “Darchei Torah” I have read the book “Living Responsibly” by HaRav Yirmiyohu and Rebbetzin Tehilla Abramov. The authors present the various components of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The book contains both Torah sources, as to the mandates of healthy living that serve as the foundation of each chapter, and the scientific and medical facts that project those Torah mandates into modern society….  I commend the authors on a quality presentation of this extremely important subject and pray that Hashem bless them and their family with life, health, and the wherewithal to continue to benefit the community in their many and varied ways…. HaGaon Rabbi Zev Leff, shlita Rabbi of Moshav Matityahu  Rosh Yeshiva – Yeshiva Gedola Matityahu By Rabbi Yirmiyohu & Tehilla Abramov
