Little Lemon Goldenrod

Little Lemon Goldenrod is a compact, mounded perennial selected for its unusually dense habit and abundant display of soft lemon-yellow flowers. Rather than producing the tall, open growth associated with many goldenrods, this cultivar forms a neat clump of narrow green foliage topped with bright flower clusters. The blooms create a cheerful display from late summer into fall, bringing fresh color to the garden just as many summer perennials begin to fade. Its compact size and refined appearance make it easy to incorporate into smaller landscapes while still delivering the pollinator appeal and late-season interest goldenrods are known for. Growing approximately 1′ – 2′ (ft) tall and wide, Little Lemon Goldenrod develops a dense, rounded habit that works especially well at the front of beds and borders. Its smaller stature makes it a useful choice for gardens where traditional goldenrods would become too large or overwhelming. Plant several together for a bright sweep of late-season color, or combine it with asters, ornamental grasses, and other fall-blooming perennials. Its tidy growth also makes it suitable for containers and mixed plantings, where the soft yellow flowers provide an effective contrast against richer autumn colors. Little Lemon Goldenrod grows best in full sun and average, well-drained soil. Water regularly while newly planted to help establish a strong root system, then provide supplemental water during prolonged dry periods. Established plants tolerate some drought and generally require little additional care. Fertilization is usually unnecessary in reasonably fertile garden soil, and excessive feeding can encourage overly lush growth. Cut back old stems in late winter or early spring before new growth begins, and divide mature clumps if they become overcrowded or if additional plants are desired.
