Limemound Spirea

Limemound Spirea (Spiraea x bumalda 'Monhub')Limemound Spirea is a compact, mounded shrub that keeps landscapes looking bright and finished from spring through fall. New growth starts a clear lemon yellow, then matures to vivid lime green, giving beds a fresh, lifted look all season. Soft pink flower clusters arrive from late spring into summer, adding color and pollinator activity without taking over the planting. It is easy to maintain, dependable in sun, and a strong choice when you want long-running foliage color in a manageable size. Distinctive FeaturesThis spirea stands out for its foliage progression, with yellow spring growth that settles into lime green for summer and often finishes with orange to red fall color on reddish stems. Flat-topped clusters of soft pink flowers bloom from late spring into summer, creating a gentle contrast against the bright leaves. The habit is dense and mounded, helping the plant look intentional with minimal shaping. Used in groups, it creates a clean ribbon of color that holds its presence from the first flush of growth to the end of the season. Growing Conditions Sun: Full sun for best foliage color and flowering, with part sun tolerated. Soil: Average, well-drained soil is ideal, and it adapts to many garden soils when drainage is reasonable. Water: Medium moisture, water regularly to establish, then water during extended dry periods as needed. USDA Zones: Hardy in USDA Zones 3 to 8. Mature Size: Typically 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. Habit: Dense, mounded, and compact. Bloom Season: Late spring to summer. Ideal Uses Focal Point: Use as a low focal point where the bright foliage can lead the front of a sunny bed and define the planting edge. Edging: Line walkways and bed fronts for a tidy border that stays compact and colorful. Mass Planting: Plant in drifts to create a bright, uniform ribbon of lime foliage with soft pink bloom accents. Foundation Planting: Place along foundations where a low mound adds structure without blocking windows. Low Hedge: Use in a row to form a clean, flowering low hedge with consistent shape and color. Low Maintenance Care Pruning: Shear lightly after flowering to encourage fresh growth and keep the mound tight and uniform. Renewal: In late winter to early spring, remove a few older stems at the base to maintain vigor and density. Watering: Keep evenly moist during the first growing season, then water during prolonged drought to reduce stress. Fertilizing: Feed lightly in spring only if needed, because excess fertility can reduce flowering and loosen habit. Mulching: Mulch to conserve moisture and reduce weeds, keeping mulch pulled back from the stems. Why Choose Limemound Spirea?
