Libra • Endless Hoop Charm Earring

Libra, the seventh astrological sign in the Zodiac, lies between Virgo to the west and Scorpio to the east. It is the only inanimate sign of the zodiac. All the others represent either humans or animals. Many modern astrologers regard Libra as the most desirable of zodiacal types because it represents the zenith of the year - the high point of the seasons - when everything is in balance and the harvest of all the hard work of the spring is rewarded. The “Scales of Balance” date back to Egyptian afterlife Finial Judgement rituals where Anubis, "God of the Dead", would use the scales to weigh the heart of the deceased against a feather from Ma'at, the "Goddess of Truth and Justice". It is also thought that Libra is the "Goddess of Balance and Truth" which corresponds with Ma'at, the Egyptian "Goddess of the Scales or Balance". In Roman mythology, the Libra constellation depicts the Scales held by Astraea (identified as the constellation Virgo), the "Goddess of Justice".
