Mixed Media on Lithograph 14" x 13" We invite you to contact us about additional works available. 212-874-6700 or sales@petermax.com A true patriot, Peter Max first painted Lady Liberty in 1976 to celebrate America's bicentennial. His love affair with Lady Liberty has continued in the decades since; as he continued to paint her in different forms and for many events and commissions. The artist has been invited to the White House by several presidents to paint her live or present his Liberty paintings for installation. Max's Liberty paintings are in the permanent collections of presidential libraries and U.S. Embassies around the world. In the early 1980s, Peter Max spearheaded the effort to restore the Statue of Liberty with Chrysler Chairman Lee Iacocca. At the Liberty Centennial Reopening on July 4, 1986, the artist was asked to paint large canvases of her on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. Inspired by the fireworks reflecting off of the newly-restored Lady Liberty at the reopening celebration; the artist began a new series of 'Liberty Head' paintings with flashes, bursts and planes of audacious, fauvist color painted on and around her face. Liberty's calm, steadfast expression is accentuated with energetic and celebratory strokes of color-mixed and textured brushwork painted on a lithograph. The piece is framed with broad fields of bold color and accentuated with the artist's signature 'zoople' strokes and bravura flourishes. All sales are final and all works are sold unframed. A Certificate of Authenticity is drafted upon sale and mailed separately to the given shipping address. ©ALP, Inc.
