This delicate botanical illustration of Triteleia laxa captures the graceful charm of a California native wildflower that captivated French horticulturists in the mid-nineteenth century. Published in L'Horticulteur Français, a journal for serious gardening enthusiasts edited from the Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle de Paris, this plate demonstrates the refined artistry that defined French botanical publishing during its golden age. The soft lavender blooms, each with its sunny yellow-green center, emerge from elegantly curving blue-green foliage. Artist Annick Brisogne rendered the specimen with scientific precision while preserving the plant's natural poetry, her work then translated to the plate by the skilled engraver Visto. The hand-applied coloring retains its subtle luminosity after more than a century and a half. Commonly known as Ithuriel's Spear or triplet lily, this species arrived in European gardens as part of the great wave of botanical discoveries from the American West. A standout piece for collectors of botanical art, California flora, or anyone drawn to the intersection of science and beauty that characterized the finest nineteenth-century natural history illustration. Size: 9.0" x 6.0" Artist: Annick Brisogne Condition: Very Good, Age-appropriate wear. Paper toning in accordance with the print's age. Marks/stains as per photo.
