Levitating Lantern

Balance tension and gravity to make an "impossible" floating lamp! Build a lantern that floats above its base with the help of tension and rubber bands. Learn the science behind how it floats and engineer an electric circuit to make the lamp glow, then test the levitation with a series of “tricks” that are sure to impress! REAL-WORLD SCIENCE: Harness the power of physics to create a levitating lantern that floats in midair! Explore how tension and tensegrity make this mind-boggling magic trick possible. BUILD-IT-YOURSELF: Assemble your wooden lantern, wire it up, and watch the levitation in action. Tinker with and troubleshoot your creation to perfect the illusion! EDUCATIONAL: Test the limits of your lantern’s levitation and learn the science behind tension and tensegrity. Understand how these forces make the floating lantern work! HANDS-ON FUN: Explore a variety of levitating illusions and read about the history and inspiration behind the design of your lantern.
