Leprechaun™ Arborvitae

Small-Space Privacy Without The “Too Big Later” Problem Leprechaun™ Arborvitae is the evergreen for homeowners who want a real screen—just not the massive footprint that comes with many fast-growing privacy trees. It grows into a naturally narrow, upright pyramid that fits where space is limited: side yards, along fences, near patios, and in foundation-adjacent beds where you still want height. If you’ve ever loved the idea of a Green Giant-style hedge but worried it would swallow the bed, Leprechaun™ is the smart middle ground. Its form is tidy and consistent, which makes it easy to use in clean, modern designs or traditional landscapes. Plant a row for a living wall, use a pair to frame an entry, or tuck it into mixed borders for vertical evergreen structure. You get year-round privacy potential and a finished look without needing to constantly “fight the plant” as it matures. Rich Green Foliage That Stays Handsome In Winter One of the best traits of Leprechaun™ is its soft, dense foliage and saturated green color. In many landscapes, it holds its color well through winter, keeping your hedge looking fresh instead of dull or bronzy. That matters because privacy plantings are often most visible in the off-season when deciduous screens are bare, and every evergreen is on display. The foliage texture is also a design win. It reads as refined and lush up close, while the overall silhouette stays crisp from the curb. Whether you’re building a boundary line, blocking a view, or simply adding evergreen structure to a bed, Leprechaun™ delivers a polished look that supports the whole landscape year-round. Sun-Friendly, Tough, And Easy To Establish With Simple Care Leprechaun™ Arborvitae performs best in full sun to partial shade, and it’s adaptable to a wide range of soils as long as drainage is reasonable. Like most arborvitae, it prefers consistent moisture while establishing, then becomes more tolerant once roots are settled. The goal in year one is steady growth and dense branching—so the hedge thickens early and stays full from top to bottom. It’s also a strong pick for lower-maintenance landscapes because it doesn’t demand constant shaping. Plant it correctly, mulch the root zone, and keep up with deep watering during the first growing season, and you’ll build a healthier root system that supports better drought tolerance later. If you’re planting for privacy and want predictable performance without fuss, this is a confidence-building choice. Hedge-Ready Shape With Spacing That Builds The Screen You Want Because Leprechaun™ is naturally narrow, spacing is where you control the final effect: a formal hedge, a softer screen, or individual specimens. Too tight and you’ll create competition and unnecessary crowding; too wide and you’ll wait longer for the planting to knit together. A clear spacing plan up front gives you faster results and healthier plants in the long term. Pruning is optional, but it’s easy when you do it right. A light tip-trim in late spring to early summer can encourage extra branching and keep the sides tight, especially if you’re aiming for a crisp hedge line. Avoid cutting back into old wood, and focus on gentle shaping that maintains the plant’s natural pyramid. The result is a dense, narrow evergreen wall that looks intentional, not hacked.
