The Black Cube is built from premium thermally treated pine (1.57" / 40mm thick) for walls and smooth thermo-alder for benches. Thermally treated wood undergoes heat processing that removes moisture and resins, resulting in superior dimensional stability, resistance to warping, rot, and insect damage compared to untreated cedar. This thermal treatment creates a naturally rich warm tone that ages beautifully over time. The alder benches have extremely low thermal conductivity, remaining cool and comfortable to touch even when sauna temperatures exceed 190°F. This material quality ensures your sauna maintains structural integrity, safety, and aesthetic appeal for decades with proper maintenance. What are the interior dimensions, and how much space will I have inside the sauna? The Black Cube Comfort interior dimensions are 80" W x 78" D x 80" H, providing a compact yet functional wellness space. The exterior footprint of 86" W x 89" D x 87" H makes it ideal for smaller yards, patios, and residential spaces. The two-level bench design maximizes seating comfort within the intimate interior, with smooth alder benches featuring integrated skirts. While compact compared to larger sauna models, the interior layout is carefully engineered to accommodate 6 people comfortably without feeling cramped. The design prioritizes user comfort and proper ventilation over maximum capacity, creating an ideal balance for family or small group sauna sessions. How does the tempered glass front affect heating efficiency and aesthetic appeal? The 8mm black tempered glass front serves dual purposes: it provides excellent heat retention through the density of tempered glass, while the black tint enhances privacy and creates a sleek, modern aesthetic that complements contemporary outdoor spaces. The premium black-painted arches framing the glass create bold architectural presence and visual interest. Tempered glass is stronger than regular glass and resists thermal stress better, ensuring durability during repeated heating cycles. The dark tint also reduces glare and UV transmission while allowing you to see outside, creating connection with your outdoor environment. This combination of function and design makes the Black Cube a statement piece that enhances any backyard. What ventilation system does the Black Cube use, and why is proper airflow important? The Black Cube features 3-4 strategically placed ventilation openings engineered for optimal airflow circulation. Proper ventilation is critical for sauna safety and comfort—it ensures adequate oxygen supply, prevents carbon dioxide buildup, and maintains consistent temperature distribution throughout the interior. Fresh air intake and exhaust openings work together to maintain a clean, oxygen-rich atmosphere during sauna sessions. The placement of these vents is carefully calculated based on heater location and interior layout to prevent cold spots while maximizing heat retention. Quality ventilation also helps prevent moisture accumulation that could damage wood over time, supporting long-term durability and user safety. What heater size should I choose, and are heaters included with the sauna kit? Heaters are sold separately from the Black Cube kit. Leil recommends a 9 kW electric heater, or a wood-burning heater. The specific amperage and electrical requirements depend on heater selection, so it's essential to consult with a certified electrician before purchasing. The sauna is designed for electric and wood-burning heater compatibility, and multiple heater options are available from authorized retailers. Popular choices include HUUM and Saunum electric heaters, which pair well with Leil's Estonian engineering for authentic sauna performance. How do I assemble the Black Cube, and what's involved in the installation process? The Black Cube arrives as a comprehensive DIY kit requiring on-site assembly by the customer. Assembly typically takes 6-8 hours with 2-3 people experienced with basic power tools. The kit includes detailed assembly instructions with all components pre-cut and hardware provided. Key assembly steps include securing thermally treated pine wall panels, installing the 8mm black tempered glass front (which weighs approximately 220 lbs), attaching the square shingle roof, mounting two-level alder benches, positioning the Nerostep safety mat, and connecting ventilation components. You'll need a level foundation, proper drainage consideration, and accurate panel alignment. After assembly, you'll install the heater (requires electrician) and apply finishing treatments to wood as specified in instructions. What weather conditions can the Black Cube handle, and does it require seasonal maintenance? The Black Cube is engineered for year-round outdoor use in virtually all weather conditions. Its thermally treated pine construction naturally resists moisture, rot, and temperature extremes. The square shingle roof provides excellent protection against rain, snow, and UV exposure. The 40mm thick walls offer superior insulation and durability. Seasonal maintenance includes inspecting roof shingles, cleaning gutters of debris, checking ventilation openings remain clear, and periodically resealing wood joints with appropriate exterior finishes. The exposed wood areas may develop a natural silvery patina over time if left unfinished, which is a normal aesthetic change that doesn't affect functionality. With proper care, thermally treated wood can last indefinitely, making the Black Cube a long-term investment in your wellness and property value. What's included in the kit, and what do I need to purchase separately? The Black Cube kit includes the sauna structure (walls, benches, roof), 8mm black tempered glass front door, Nerostep non-slip plastic grid floor mat, assembly hardware, and detailed instruction manual. What you purchase separately: electric sauna heater (6 kW standard or 9 kW for panoramic window), electrical work and breaker installation (requires certified electrician), and optional finishing products (exterior paint/stain and interior varnish are recommended but not always included). Shipping within the 48 contiguous states is $950 and includes curbside LTL delivery. Optional upgrades available include the half-panoramic window on the back wall for enhanced natural light and scenic views, which requires upsizing to a 9 kW heater.
