Play with Purpose Back Lying Tummy Lying Floor Sitting Hands and Knees Physical Development Back lying strengthens neck, tummy, shoulder, and hip flexors as children lift their head, arms, and legs against gravity. Cognitive Development: Back lying is the initial stage for understanding cause and effect play. Sensory Development Back lying is the optimal position for children to focus their eyes. Physical Development Tummy lying strengthens the neck, shoulders, arms, and back, serving as a crucial foundation for transitioning to sitting. Cognitive Development Tummy lying promotes coordination between hands and eyes, fostering the emergence of spatial awareness. Sensory Development Tummy lying provides a sense of security while enhancing visual focusing and tracking. Physical Development Floor sitting stabilizes the pelvis and trunk, freeing the arms and hands for movement. Cognitive Development Floor sitting helps children realize their world is three-dimensional when they are upright. Sensory Development Floor sitting allows children to use their hands more freely, enabling them to explore a wider variety of objects. Physical Development Hands and knees position strengthens muscles as children support their body weight against gravity, aiding in movement. Cognitive Development Hands and knees position enhances spatial awareness by helping children understand the relationship between their body and their environment. Sensory Development: Hands and knees position promotes sensory development by encouraging weight bearing through extended arms and open palms.
