Learn From Every Setback - How To Build Resilience

Setbacks are a natural part of life, and they can happen anywhere — at home, in school, or out in the world. They may feel discouraging in the moment, but setbacks provide valuable opportunities to learn and grow. Whether it’s failing a test, not making the team, or struggling with a friendship, each challenge builds resilience. The Learn from Every Setback handout is a helpful resource for clients that encourages them to view setbacks through a more constructive lens. Instead of seeing challenges as failures, this tool guides individuals to ask better questions. It also lets them look for hidden benefits and document the lessons they’ve gained along the way. Kids and teens using the handout may learn to slow down and reflect on their experiences. To enhance their learning, you can prompt them to answer reflection questions such as “What did I learn?” and “What strengths did I show?” Finally, help them create an action plan by thinking about what they would like to do differently in the future. *This item is an instant digital download.
