The stock door sizes listed here ship in 4 days (lead lined wood doors and pre-hung packages only). Custom doors or door and frame packages are currently running 7 to 9. weeks. Unfortunately, it's not possible to stock every size of door frame; they will always be a custom product due to different wall thicknesses, lead thicknesses, door swing, and hardware prep requirements. While these lead thicknesses are the most common for general x-ray rooms such as doctors, dentists, chiropractors, and medical centers; you will still need to check with your local health official or radiation physicist to determine the required lead shielding for your room. Our standard doors are solid-core wood slab doors, with stain-grade birch veneer, not prepped for hardware or locksets and do not include any hardware, lockset, or frame. This door is not fire rated. If a fire rating is required, we can provide a quote. Our lead lined wood doors can be fire rated up to 20 minutes. To have the fire rated label, you must notify us of this requirement prior to ordering. If a longer fire rating is required, our lead lined metal doors and frames can be fire rated up to 90 minutes These can be planed down to the required size and prepped on the jobsite by the installer. If you are ordering a door and frame, we will need to know your wall thickness and door swing before fabrication can begin. The standard frame prep includes: ASA strike prep at 38" high (if your lockset height is different, no problem, just let us know before ordering) Reinforcement for a continuous hinge (we recommend HD1100-LL) Welded combination anchors for wood or metal studs. This is especially true for a x-ray door, which might be overlooked in the design process. Lead lined wood doors play a vital role in ensuring that harmful radiation does not escape the room, and that patients and staff are protected from its effects. Lead lined doors are made with a layer of lead sandwiched between two sheets of wood. This provides an effective barrier against radiation, while still allowing the door to function like a regular door. The lead shielding helps to keep x-rays from escaping the room. Request a Quote for Your Lead Lined Wood Door Now! Why Protection from Radiation is Essential Radiation from x-ray machines can be harmful to both patients and staff. Patients can be exposed to too much radiation if the x-ray machine is not properly shielded. This can lead to a range of harmful effects such as skin damage, hair loss, and even cancer. Even small amounts of radiation can be harmful to staff if they are exposed to it over a long period of time. This is why it is so important to have lead lined doors in x-ray rooms. The lead shielding will help to keep the harmful radiation contained within the room, protecting both patients and staff. How Lead Lined Doors Work Lead lined doors work by providing a barrier between the x-ray room and the rest of the facility. The lead in the door will absorb the radiation, preventing it from passing through. Lead has an array of properties that make it suitable for radiation shielding including its density, application flexibility, and stability. Lead's high atomic number also makes it effective at absorbing x-rays. Lead works to absorb radiation by scattering and absorbing the x-rays. This process helps to reduce the amount of harmful radiation that is able to pass through the door. Lead has been cited to be able to attenuate up to 99% of the radiation, making it an effective radiation shield. Selecting the Right Lead Lined Door for your X-Ray Door When selecting a lead lined door for your x-ray room, there are a few things to keep in mind so that you are satisfied with the final output. Types of Lead Lined Doors First, you need to decide what type of door you need. There are two main types of lead lined doors, hinged and sliding. Hinged doors are the most common type of lead lined door. They are easy to install and provide a good seal against radiation. Sliding doors are best for larger x-ray rooms. They can be more difficult to install, but they provide a better seal against radiation. You'll also need to consider if you need a lead lined window in your lead lined door. If you require visibility into the x-ray room, then you'll need to select a door with a lead lined window. The lead lined window should have lead glass in a lead lined vision frame. Lead Equivalency Lead equivalency is the measure of how much lead is required to reduce the radiation passing through the door. The lead should be thick enough to provide adequate protection. The width of the door should also be considered. The door should be wide enough to allow patients and equipment to pass through easily. You will still need to check with your local health official or radiation physicist to determine the required lead equivalency for your x-ray door. A radiation physicist is a professional who is trained to understand the effects of radiation and how to protect people from its harmful effects. Construction of Lead Lined Doors The construction of the lead lined door is also important. Our doors have a solid core so that it can provide adequate strength to hold the weight of the lead lining. The lead is internal, unpierced, 99.9% pure lead sheet evenly distributed throughout the door so that it can provide maximum protection. Installation of Your Lead Lined Door Another thing to consider when selecting a lead lined door is installation. These doors are not prepped for hardware. A carpenter can prep the door in the field for your hinge and lockset. A qualified installer should be able to install the door properly. Note: It is important to note that a forklift is required for offloading your lead lined door Lead Lined Door Frames Once you've selected the lead lined door that's right for your x-ray room, you'll also need to select a lead lined door frame. The door frame should be made of metal so that it can properly support the lead lined door. A qualified installer should be able to install the door frame properly. Why Choose Wood for Your Lead Lined Door? Wood is a popular choice for lead lined doors because it is a strong and durable material, and can be finished to match the décor of your x-ray room. Wood is a natural material that is environmentally friendly. Using a renewable resource like wood helps to reduce your carbon footprint. Wood is also an excellent insulator, potentially helping to keep the x-ray room cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Interested to learn more about the benefits of lead lined wood doors? Lead lined doors are installed in much the same way as any other door. The door is hung on the lead lined door frame and then secured in place. The door should be properly sealed so that there are no gaps or openings that could allow radiation to escape. Once the door is installed, a qualified installer should be able to install the door properly and test it to ensure that it is providing adequate protection. Where are Lead Lined Doors Used? Lead lined doors are most often used in medical facilities, such as hospitals, clinics, veterinary clinic, and dental offices. They are also used in industrial settings, such as factories and laboratories. PET scan and CT scan rooms also often use lead lined doors. Airports use lead lined doors for screening purposes and there are also defense and aerospace applications such as radiation shielding in military bunkers and space stations.
