Lapis Lazuli ~ Brushstroke | EDM-1 Limited Edition of 50

Description |  In Lapis Lazuli ~ Brushstroke, Ellen de Meijer reimagines her archetypal Wall Street portrait through the lens of painterly abstraction. The figure—poised, unflinching, and marked by her Civil War–styled belts, golden buckle, and jewel-studded ring—stands as an emblem of contemporary material wealth and fintech power. Yet here, the uniform precision of her attire is disrupted by sweeping, gestural brushstrokes that wash across the surface. These painted marks, translated into screen print, introduce an intentional rupture: a reminder of the human hand, of subjectivity, of imperfection, set against the rigidity of corporate identity. Where the original painting presents the figure with haunting realism, Lapis Lazuli ~ Brushstroke layers immediacy and accident, destabilizing the image’s authority. The bold red gloves, coupled with the flashes of abstract gesture, intensify the tension between control and vulnerability, wealth and emotion. Through this edition, de Meijer underscores the contradictions of contemporary archetypes: their polished exteriors versus the brushstrokes of doubt and fragility that run beneath.   About the artist |  Ellen de Meijer (b. 1955, Netherlands) is a Dutch contemporary artist whose practice has found strong resonance with collectors in the United States and throughout Latin America.
