Laphroaig 10-year Cask Strength 2015

Experience the legendary intensity of Laphroaig with this rare 2015 Cask Strength release, celebrating 200 years of whisky-making. Bottled at a robust 112.6 proof, this 10-year-old Islay Single Malt delivers an unparalleled journey of peat smoke, maritime brine, and surprising sweetness. Tasting Notes Nose: A powerful, yet surprisingly nuanced, wave of medicinal peat smoke immediately saturates the senses, reminiscent of antiseptic bandages and a distant bonfire on a damp beach. Underlying this robust character are surprising notes of candied lemon peel, saline, seaweed, and a sweet, almost honeyed maltiness. A hint of vanilla and roasted coffee beans emerges with time, betraying its ex-bourbon cask maturation, battling against the dominant Islay character. Palate: The entry is an assertive explosion of flavor, the high proof delivering a warming, oily texture. The classic Laphroaig peat smoke is front and center, but it's intertwined with sweet, ripe orchard fruits – green apple, pear, and a touch of tart gooseberry. Medicinal iodine and a distinct maritime saltiness are balanced by a surprising creamy vanilla and caramel, evolving into a peppery spice and a faint, charred oak bitterness. Water tames the intensity, revealing more of the underlying sweetness and a slightly herbaceous quality. Finish: Long, lingering, and exceptionally complex. The medicinal smoke slowly recedes, leaving behind a comforting warmth and a persistent aftertaste of smoldering embers, dry ash, and a whisper of dark chocolate. Salty liquorice, black pepper, and a subtle brininess complete the epic journey, with the sweetness returning faintly at the very end. The mouthfeel remains velvety and coating. About the Distillery Laphroaig is one of Islay's most iconic distilleries, established in 1815. Known for its distinctively smoky and medicinal single malt whiskies, Laphroaig exclusively uses malted barley that is kilned over peat fires sourced from Islay, contributing to its unique flavor profile. The distillery maintains its own malting floor, one of the few remaining on Islay.
