LAND, LOVE, CENTURY: New and Selected Poems by Gevorg Emin

By Gevorg Emin. Translated by Martin Robbins with Tatul Sonentz-Papazian. Foreward by Yevgeny Yevtushenko This precious little collection of poems reveals not only the heart and sould of Armenia's premier poet but also the hard truths of the Armenian experience as interpreted by a brilliant, gifted observer whose ebullient spirit shines through every line despite the often grim history of his people. In delightful and original detail he documents the many ways in which he has learned the lesson that "Small can be beautiful" in a world increasinglyu incapable of managing its size. The translator deserves our gratitude for bringing this fresh voice to us with such loving attention.  Leo Hamalian, editor, Ararat Three Continents Press (1988)
