Laced Up® Elderberry (Sambucus nigra)

Laced Up® elderberry is unlike any elderberry you’ve seen before. Its striking, fastigiate habit rises gracefully, accentuating the delicate, lacy foliage that makes elderberries so beloved—only here, the foliage is a dramatic near-black, creating an effect reminiscent of a flock of birds in flight. In early summer, soft pink flowers appear, eventually giving way to lustrous black fruit when a pollinator such as Black Lace® elderberry is nearby. Tall, narrow, and upright, this exceptional plant makes a perfect screen or vertical accent, bringing both function and flair to the garden. It’s a statement plant—bold, unusual, and captivating—ideal for gardeners who crave something a little out of the ordinary. Laced Up® doesn’t just fill a space; it transforms it, offering a dramatic focal point that invites admiration all season long. 6-10 feet tall and 3-5 feet wide at maturity Hardy in zones 4-7, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success Plant in part to full sun (4+ hours daily) Space plants 3-5 feet apart for best results Produces pink flowers during early summer Maintains near-black foliage from spring to frost Blooms on old wood Great for foundation plantings, screening, focal points, woodland gardens, landscapes Resists deer and rabbits Drought tolerant, produces edible berries, foliage interest Shrubs shipped Nov-Apr will arrive dormant; shrubs shipped Apr-Oct will arrive green or in bloom Care: Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid summer.
