Crafted with 100% mature Blue Weber Agave grown in the iron-rich soils of the Jalisco Highlands, La Gritona is made with a deep respect for tradition. The agave is slow-cooked in traditional masonry ovens and distilled with meticulous care. The spirit is then rested for eight months in reused American whiskey barrels, a process that imparts a subtle color and complexity without overpowering the vibrant character of the agave. It’s a Reposado for those who truly love the taste of tequila. Distillery: V.A.M.P. (NOM 1533), Valle de Guadalupe, Jalisco, Mexico Brand History: Distilled by Women La Gritona is a brand with a powerful story. It is distilled by a small, dedicated team of women at a craft distillery (NOM 1533) in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. Founded by Melly Cardenas, the brand is a celebration of female craftsmanship in a traditionally male-dominated industry. Their focus is singular: to create an exceptional Reposado that is smooth, elegant, and true to the character of the agave. Even the iconic bottles are made from recycled Mexican glass, reflecting a commitment to sustainability and local craft. Tasting Notes: A Crisp and Vegetal Reposado La Gritona is celebrated for its light, refreshing, and agave-forward character, which stands in contrast to heavier, oak-driven Reposados: Nose: A fresh and vibrant bouquet of sweet cooked agave, with notes of fresh herbs, black pepper, and a hint of wet earth and citrus. Palate: A wonderfully crisp and clean palate. The initial taste is a wave of bright, vegetal agave, which is perfectly balanced by a gentle sweetness. Notes of mint, basil, and a subtle, peppery spice emerge, with only a whisper of vanilla from the barrel. Finish: The finish is exceptionally smooth and clean, with a lingering note of sweet agave and a final, satisfying touch of spice. Why La Gritona is an Essential Tequila: A Celebration of Female Craftsmanship: A unique opportunity to support and enjoy a high-quality tequila produced entirely by a team of women. A Different Kind of Reposado: By using older, less active barrels, La Gritona preserves the bright, herbaceous character of the agave, making it a refreshingly different sipper. Incredibly Versatile: Perfect for sipping neat or on the rocks, but its crisp profile also makes it an exceptional base for elevated cocktails like a Paloma or a high-end Margarita. Sustainable and Authentic: From the locally grown agave to the recycled glass bottles, this is a tequila with a deep connection to its community and environment. This is a tequila that screams authenticity from every drop. A: "Reposado" (meaning "rested") is a classification for tequila that has been aged in oak barrels for a minimum of two months, but less than a year. La Gritona is aged for 8 months, which gives it a smoother character than a Blanco while retaining its fresh agave notes. Q: How is this Reposado different from others? A: La Gritona intentionally uses older, reused American whiskey barrels for its aging. These "tired" barrels impart less color and oaky flavor, which allows the natural, bright, and vegetal character of the highland agave to remain the star of the show. Q: Who is Melly Cardenas? A: Melly Cardenas is the founder and Master Distiller of La Gritona Tequila. She leads a team of women who handle every step of the production process at their distillery in Jalisco. Q: Where can I purchase La Gritona Reposado? A: This is a popular craft tequila. We recommend contacting our preferred retail partner, Nestor Liquor, to inquire about their inventory.
