La Brea Tar Pit Specimen - Authentic Pleistocene Asphalt Fossil Fragment

The La Brea Tar Pits are among the most famous fossil sites in the world and arguably the most significant urban paleontological site on Earth. For thousands of years, natural asphalt seeps in what is now the heart of Los Angeles have trapped and preserved the remains of Pleistocene megafauna in extraordinary numbers - nearly 700 different species have been excavated, some dating back 40,000 years to the Late Pleistocene. This authentic La Brea Tar Pit fossil specimen is a real piece of fossil material from those iconic asphalt seeps, presented in a glass-topped riker display case with certificate of authenticity. A Piece of the Most Famous Fossil Site in Los Angeles This is not a cast. This is a genuine specimen from the La Brea Tar Pits - the same location that has yielded thousands of Smilodon specimens, hundreds of Dire Wolf skulls, mammoths, mastodons, and giant ground sloths. The asphalt seeps of Rancho La Brea have been a natural fossil trap for tens of thousands of years and are still actively excavating specimens today.
