L200 Green Phantom Pleco / Hemiancistrus subviridis

Common Name: L200 Green Phantom Pleco Scientific Name: Hemiancistrus subviridis The L200 Green Phantom Pleco, scientifically known as Hemiancistrus subviridis, is a striking freshwater fish species highly sought after by aquarists. They possess a unique appearance with a predominantly dark green body adorned with bright yellow spots. Their elongated body is armored with bony plates, and they have a broad head and sucker-like lips. Habitat and Distribution:  The L200 Green Phantom Pleco originates from the fast-flowing rivers and tributaries of South America, specifically the upper Rio Orinoco basin and the Ventuari River in Venezuela. They inhabit rocky habitats and seek out hiding spots such as caves, crevices, and driftwood. Size and Lifespan: In captivity, L200 Green Phantom Plecos typically reach a maximum size of 6-8 inches, although some individuals may grow slightly larger. They can live for several years with proper care. Diet and Behavior: L200 Green Phantom Plecos are omnivorous and feed on a varied diet. They consume algae, plant matter, and also accept high-quality sinking pellets, flakes, and occasional live or frozen foods such as bloodworms or brine shrimp. These plecos are primarily nocturnal and prefer to hide during the day, emerging at night to feed and explore their surroundings. Aquarium Care and Tank Requirements: L200 Green Phantom Plecos require a well-maintained aquarium with ample hiding spots such as caves, crevices, and driftwood. A tank size of at least 30 gallons is recommended for a single pleco, with larger tanks preferred for multiple individuals. It's crucial to provide efficient filtration and regular water changes to maintain optimal water quality. Ideal Tank Mates: L200 Green Phantom Plecos are generally peaceful but can be territorial towards their own species or other bottom-dwelling fish. They can be kept with a variety of community fish species that are not overly aggressive or fin-nipping. Providing adequate hiding spots and territories within the aquarium is important to reduce potential conflicts. Difficulty Level: L200 Green Phantom Plecos are considered moderately difficult to keep in captivity. While they are generally hardy, they require suitable water parameters, appropriate tank size, and a varied diet to thrive. Maintaining good water quality and providing a well-balanced environment are essential for their well-being. Water Parameters: Temperature: 76-82°F (24-28°C) pH: 6.0-7.5 General Hardness (GH): 4-10 dGH Carbonate Hardness (KH): 2-8 dKH Ammonia: 0 ppm Nitrite: 0 ppm Nitrate: <20 ppm Additional Information: The L200 Green Phantom Pleco is known for its unique coloration and attractive pattern, making it a prized addition to many aquariums. Their ability to help control algae growth in the aquarium is an added benefit. These plecos are relatively peaceful and can be enjoyable to observe during their nocturnal activities.
