Kubus Base - Black

The Audo Copenhagen Kubus Base is a protective accessory designed in 2009 specifically for the iconic Kubus and Line candle holders, solving the practical problem of dripping wax damaging furniture surfaces while beautifully framing these beloved Danish design pieces. This base transforms functional necessity into visual enhancement, emphasizing the simple, geometric beauty of Mogens Lassen's original 1962 Kubus candleholder design through thoughtful proportioning and material choice. Available in two sizes - one for Kubus 4 at 8.27 inches square and another for Kubus 8 at 11.811 inches square - the base provides a stable platform that catches wax drips before they reach your dining table, sideboard, or mantel. What makes this accessory smart is how it doesn't just protect surfaces but actually improves the overall presentation, creating a defined landing spot that gives the candleholder more presence and intention rather than appearing to float randomly on furniture. The base's minimal profile at just 0.6 inches height means it provides protection without adding unnecessary bulk or changing the visual proportions of the Kubus candleholder significantly. Made from powder-coated metal that coordinates with the Kubus collection's finishes, the base maintains design consistency while adding subtle weight and stability - particularly useful if you have the candleholder positioned where it might get bumped. The square form echoes the Kubus's own geometric precision, creating visual harmony between accessory and main piece. What's practical beyond the wax protection is how the base defines boundaries - you know exactly where the candleholder lives, making it less likely to get knocked over or repositioned carelessly. The base works equally well with the Line candleholder collection, demonstrating versatility across related product families. Audo Copenhagen designed the Kubus Base with explicit respect for Mogens Lassen's legacy as both architect and designer, ensuring this accessory enhances rather than detracts from his iconic work. Lassen pioneered Danish Functionalism in the early-to-mid 20th century, taking cues from Bauhaus sensibilities where form follows function and geometric precision matters. His Kubus candleholder, originally created in 1962 for a restaurant in northern Zealand, was initially reserved for family and close architect colleagues before becoming an international design icon. The base honors Lassen's perfectionist nature and his approach to design that balances presence without drawing undue attention. By protecting surfaces and framing the candleholder beautifully, the base extends the Kubus collection's usability and longevity, allowing these pieces to be used confidently in homes without worry about damage, which aligns with Audo Copenhagen's philosophy around creating timeless designs meant for decades of use across different life chapters.
