KO: Japanese Microseasons

In Japan, the traditional calendar divides the year into seventy-two kō, or microseasons, each one noticing a small but meaningful shift in the natural world: blossoms opening, insects stirring, rain clouds gathering, frost appearing, or birds returning to the sky. This enchanting book invites readers to move through the year with the same attentiveness, using nature’s subtle changes as prompts for reflection, creativity, balance, and personal growth. Blending Japanese wisdom, Zen philosophy, mindfulness, and positive psychology, KO offers an inspiring way to reconnect with the seasons and with yourself. Each microseason becomes an opportunity to pause, observe, and consider what the natural world can teach us. Thoughtful reflections and simple mindful exercises encourage readers to notice more, and find meaning in the small details of everyday life. Perfect for readers interested in Japanese culture, Zen-inspired living, creativity, and wellbeing, KO is a calming and elegant companion for anyone seeking a deeper connection to the world around them. A major contribution to Matisse studies and an indispensable resource for collectors, scholars, and art enthusiasts, this volume preserves a rare, non-traveling exhibition for a global audience—offering a vivid, enduring record of Matisse’s transformative vision.
